Did you know that according to several studies of children, adolescents, and youth with mental health disorders, between 75% and 80% of those children, adolescents, and youth did not receive the mental health services and support they need? This statistic is true for several different reasons, ranging from trouble identifying behavioral and mental health disorders to the unfortunate stigma associated with seeking mental health care.

New Focus Mental Health is interested in being able to modify this trend. No problem is too big or small for us to handle, and we have successfully dealt with behavior issues ranging from mild to life threatening. We work with children, adolescents, and adults.

How does behavioral analysis work?

Assessment: We begin with a behavioral assessment to determine exactly what is happening, what motivates the child, youth, or adult to engage in problem behavior, and what would be the most appropriate treatment.

Individualized Treatment Plan – Based on the assessment, we create an individualized behavioral treatment plan that is designed to meet the unique needs of the individual and family. These treatment plans often include the teaching of new positive behaviors and an emphasis on the use of positive reinforcement.

Empower parents and others – If we want a child, adolescent, or young person to always behave well, it is imperative that the treatment program is carried out by someone other than our team of professionals. It is imperative that parents or caregivers also participate. We train all parents and caregivers on exactly what, when and how to participate in treatment. By teaching the family the behavior of the child, adolescent or young person can change in significant and lasting ways.

Progress monitoring: We systematically monitor the progress of treatment so that we can ensure that our treatment is effective and adjust the program as necessary to achieve the best possible results.
